Vietnam and Oman established diplomatic relations on 9 June 1992. Vietnam and Oman established the Joint Committee on Economic and Technical Cooperation in 2008, resulting in the establishment of Vietnam Oman Investment JSC. Backed by the Oman Investment Authority (OIA) and the State Capital Investment Corporation of Vietnam (SCIC), the joint venture is currently investing in important sectors in Vietnam, such as healthcare, education, agriculture, renewable energy, infrastructure, highways and clean water plants in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hau Giang province, with over US$250million disbursed over the past decade, becoming a typical investment flow from the Middle East into Vietnam.
